Dermal fillers add volume, smooth deep lines, and enhance facial structure using hyaluronic acid — a naturally occurring molecule that attracts water and integrates with tissue. At Forever Young Spa, we use only HA-based fillers so that every treatment is fully reversible. Complimentary consultation included.

Filler vs. Botox — Side by Side

Both are injectables, but they do fundamentally different things. Many clients benefit from both — used in different zones of the face.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable substances — typically hyaluronic acid (HA) — that restore lost volume, smooth deep lines, and enhance facial contours. HA is a naturally occurring molecule that attracts and retains water; when injected, it adds immediate volume that integrates with surrounding tissue. Common HA filler brands include Juvederm and Restylane, each formulated in different consistencies for different areas of the face.

What areas can dermal fillers treat?

Dermal fillers at Forever Young Spa are used to: restore volume to the lips and define lip borders (lip filler); add volume and lift to the cheeks and midface; smooth nasolabial folds (the lines from nose to mouth); reduce marionette lines (chin to mouth); add volume to the jawline and chin for structural definition; and treat the tear trough area under the eyes. Each area requires a different filler formulation and injection technique — a consultation determines the right product and placement for your anatomy.

How is filler different from Botox?

Botox relaxes muscles to reduce movement-caused wrinkles — it cannot add volume or lift. Filler adds physical volume using a gel substance — it cannot relax muscle movement. The treatments address different concerns and are frequently combined: Botox for the upper face (forehead, crow's feet, 11 lines) and filler for the mid and lower face (lips, cheeks, jawline) produces a comprehensive result that neither treatment achieves alone.

How long does dermal filler last?

Filler longevity depends on the area and product: lip filler lasts 9 to 12 months; cheek and midface filler lasts 12 to 18 months; jawline and chin filler lasts 12 to 24 months; nasolabial fold filler lasts 9 to 12 months. Filler is gradually broken down by the body's natural hyaluronidase enzyme. Maintenance treatments at the 9 to 12 month mark — before the filler is fully metabolized — typically require less product than the initial treatment, reducing cost over time.

Is filler reversible?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler is reversible using hyaluronidase — an enzyme that dissolves HA rapidly (within 24 to 48 hours). Reversal is performed in-clinic and is an important safety feature of HA fillers. Non-HA fillers (older products such as Sculptra, Radiesse, Bellafill) are not reversible. At Forever Young Spa, we use only HA-based fillers for this reason.

What is the cost of dermal fillers in Boston?

Dermal filler in Boston is priced per syringe — typically $650 to $900 per syringe depending on the product and treatment area. Most areas require 0.5 to 1.5 syringes. Lip filler typically requires 0.5 to 1 syringe ($325 to $900); cheek augmentation typically 1 to 2 syringes ($650 to $1,800). Members receive 15% off all filler treatments. A complimentary consultation at Forever Young Spa includes a product recommendation and pricing estimate specific to your goals.
